HISTORY
In August 1986 two members from Acacia Ridge Rotary
Club, Thor Ward and Bill McKenny met to discuss the formation of a new Rotary Club in the
Sunnybank Hills area. On the
seventeenth of February1987 an Extension Planning Committe meeting was held. From the 31st
March 1987 weekly meetings were held with a club bulletin being produced and an emphasis
placed on member recruitment. On the 28th of April 1987 a constitution was adopted, the
name Sunnybank Hills Rotary Club established and boundaries set. Formal lodgement for
membership of Rotary International was made on the eleventh of May 1987 and admittance
subsequently formalised on 27th May 1987. The first official club meeting took place with
a Gala event at the Runcorn Tavern on Tuesday evening of the sixteenth of June 1987. 160
people attended with District Governor Bill Mann presenting the club with its charter.
LOCATION
The club is situated in the southern suburbs of Brisbane, the
capital of Queensland, Australia. It is also approximately 70 kilometres north of Surfers
Paradise (45 minutes by car).
Brisbane is a sub-tropical city with 1.5 million residents. Temperature varies from
25-35°C in summer from December through to Febuary and 10-25°C in winter from June
through to August.

MEETINGS
Meetings are held at the Sunnybank Hotel, corner of
McCullough and Mains Roads Sunnybank, for breakfast each Tuesday morning at 6:45am for
7:00am start. The Meeting closes promptly at 8:00am
